We had just seen each other at the beach the previous week, but when we got to Utah, we were so happy to see my family welcoming us to the mountainous state. We stayed with my parents until our moving truck arrived, so it was a little bit like yet another vacation. The weekend began with an exciting event that was my nephew Daniel's 6th birthday party. Tim's kids have been really into the movie The Karate Kid, so that was the theme of the birthday party. The best part of the party by far was the foreign visitor...Mr. Miyagi:
He did an awesome job entertaining the kids and teaching them "the way of Karate"...respect. He even gave each of them a headband with that looked just like the one Daniel-san wore in the movie made by my amazing sister, Keri:
He showed them how to fend off evil attacks from ninjas (a.k.a. Emma):
Then, we had some delicious Batman cake. (They didn't have a Karate Kid cake at Albertson's, I don't know why. 1980's teenage romance movies are often the theme for kids' birthday parties.) Elly truly enjoyed this cake. I did not truly enjoy its blue frosting on her cute little dress, however. So, she got to eat hers in her nothinz.
After the children had filled the stomachs with sugary desserts, we naturally steered them right towards the tire swing. Brandon was the hit of the after-party, giving all the kids a turn to experience one of his crazy powerful underdogs. So, when the kids had had enough (just kidding, that would never happen) we kicked them off, so we could have turns:
I did get on the tire swing, but I got a little too dizzy and you don't want to see the evidence of that. Instead, I chose this lovely picture of two sisters sitting pleasantly on the hammock for you:
Thanks for the great welcome, Utah! We love it here already.
